The Museum of Printing

The Museum has hundreds of antique printing, typesetting and bindery machines, as well as a library of printing-related books and documents. It has one of the first two linotype machines ever made (the other is at the Smithsonian Institution). One of the presses at the Museum is the "hot press" which was used by the Millbury Journal and donated in 2005. The Millbury Journal was the last newspaper to use linotype in New England, and it used this machine until the paper closed in the early 21st Century.

One of Old Sturbridge Village's buildings is a Printing Office, which was owned at one time by Isaiah Thomas, and was originally beside the County Court House in Worcester. Interpreters at the Village demonstrate printing techniques and equipment c. 1830s.

The Research Library at Old Sturbridge Village has seven notebooks compiled by Donald Smith, who was a museum curator and for many years was the master printer at the Printing Office at Old Sturbridge Village. These notebooks contain results of Mr. Smith's research on printers of Worcester County, including lists of printers, biographical information, some photocopies of their work, and other information. Books 1-3 have notes on printers in Worcester County, focusing especially on Worcester. The other four books contain notes on printers in Fitchburg; Harvard, Lancaster and Leicester; Leominster, Lunenberg, Mendon, Milford, Millbury and Rutland; and Southbridge, Sterling and Sutton.

The Princeton Historical Society has a large collection of bound issues of Laborer's Friend and Woman's Commonwealth. There is also some material about the Fay family, and photographs of Mrs. Fay and the Fay farmhouse.
