They dated for several weeks while Duane was in preflight school, until he was transferred to Navigation School in Florida. They corresponded for months while Marge finished her studies in Journalism graduating with a B.A. from the University of Iowa. She moved to Denver for a job at Associated Press. On a 45 day leave, Duane visited her in Denver and they became engaged. Marge did not want to wait for the war to end, so they married during his leave in Des Moines, Iowa and together they headed to Dallas,Texas; where Duane would report for flight training. Duane finished his miltary duty as a Naval reservist stationed at Buckley Field in Aurora, Colorado.
